Three Hearts Movement and Play believes that we are all meant to shine, that all of us have a light so bright inside us, that we can illuminate the world. However, we know all too well that sometimes that light can be dimmed, and we all can need a little support to come out of the dark. Through the joy of dance and play, three hearts movement and play is here to support you to reignite your flame. Whether it be reconnecting with yourself, your child, a loved one or the world, three hearts therapy is here to help you rediscover your light, and illuminate it, through the power of play and dance.
The triad of your heart, my heart, our heart represents the process of attunement that happens in the therapeutic space. Through dance and play our nervous systems align, which allows me to provide a safe, loving and supportive holding space whilst either you and your child connect, or I connect with you and your child, or we connect as a group. That is why three hearts movement play focusses on our hearts, together, synchronized, as they beat as one, in the therapeutic space, that provides the ideal environment for healing, connection and love.
To work with children and adults to support them to grow, connect and love through the power of dance and play. To support parents to be the best version of themselves through loving and connecting to themselves, their children and families, and their communities. To help grow communities that value the importance of play, dance and movement for every single BODY, and grow their belief in the power of their body’s wisdom.
Values
Three Hearts Therapy’s values are the following:-
Love & Joy
Three Hearts Movement and play is about creating a loving, joyful environment for exploration and healing to occur. I live and work from a place of love and joy, with the aim to support people to find love and joy within themselves and their worlds. If I can share a little of the love, joy and acceptance that I have with you, I would be honoured to do so. Love and Joy underpin all elements of Three Hearts Movement & Play.
Connection & Creativity
Healing occurs when we feel connected, and we find ourselves in a safe space to create and transform. I offer a therapeutic approach in which creativity is harnessed to bring about healing and change. I do this through connecting and attuning to you. Connection and creativity are fundamental to my practice at Three Hearts Movement & Play
Justice & Equity
Our society has been unjust and unequal for so many, for so long. As a white person, I aim to acknowledge my privilege daily and, also, acknowledge that uncovering my privilege is a lifelong journey. I know that it is through my privileged position that I am able to do this work. From this place of privilege, I aim to contribute to a more just and equal society for children, families and communities. Providing a just, equal space for healing and therapy is at the core of my practice at Three Hearts Movement and Play.
I offer 1 free place for Play Therapy or Dance Movement Therapy for Australian Aboriginal Children and families.
I offer 2 places for Play Therapy or Dance Movement Therapy on a sliding scale for families or children who are experiencing financial hardship, for any reason, or experiencing domestic and family violence.
Alana is a Newcastle native. She is so very passionate about working with children and families. She is the founder and therapist at Three Hearts Movement & Play, having worked with children and families in some way or another for the past 20 years. Alana is a Dance Movement Therapist & a Play Therapist, as well as an Early Childhood Teacher.
Alana began her work with children whilst travelling the world and volunteering with children’s organisations across the world, teaching English and helping in classroom settings. Alana has since worked with children through children's theatre, drama workshops, then becoming a preschool teacher, and a specialist drama teacher for 4 years in Darwin, until having her own child.
Alana then realised how much parents need support too! So, she took her previous role with Family Support Newcastle, where she was for over 5 years. Here Alana was been a family worker, a play therapist, parent & children’s movement group facilitator, supported playgroup facilitator, parenting group facilitator, and also provided professional development to early childhood facilities and partner organisations, and more.
Alana has completed her Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood with Charles Darwin University, a Foundation Course in Dance Movement Therapy with the International Dance Therapy Institute of Australia (IDTIA) and the Advanced Clinical Training with Tensegrity Training in the Sunshine Coast, as well the Advanced Clinical Program in Child Centred Play Therapy and Interplay with Play Therapy Australia. Alana currently holds Associate Membership with the Dance Therapy Association Australasia (DTAA) and is a Registered Play Therapist with the Play Therapy Practitioners Association (PTPA).
Alana understands how very hard it can be to be a parent, and that we are all doing the best we can with the resources we have available to us right now. Alana offers a space where children and adults can connect, be themselves, feel loved and supported for who they are, and where they are at right now. Her playful, inner child makes her the perfect person to work with children and families, sharing her love, joy and enthusiasm for this work. Her passions around contributing to a more just and equal society drive her work with children and families, as she aims to ensure that her practice and place of work is inclusive and welcoming for all.
